KANTO - It appears that Pokémon Mega Evolution will be available in Pokémon: Let's Go!. One of the trailers for Pokémon: Let's Go! shows three different Pokémon in their Mega Evolution form.
You may be asking, "what is a Mega Evolution?"
A Mega Evolution is when a Pokémon evolves past its final evolution. The concept began in generation six of the Pokémon gaming series. There are 28 different Mega Evolutions that were introduced into Pokémon X and Y. From there, an additional 20 Mega Evolutions were added when Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire were released.
Based on the trailer, Mega Charizard X and Y, Mega Blastoise and Mega Venasaur will be making their way into the region of Kanto in Pokémon: Let's Go!.
Here are some images and descriptions of each of the Mega Evolutions that we will be seeing in the Nintendo Switch game:
Mega Charizard X
Mega Charizard X is one of two Mega Evolutions of Charizard. Mega Charizard X is a black and blue colored Charizard with blue flames. Mega Charizard X also has a type change. Its type changes from fire/flying to fire/dragon. It also learns the move "Tough Claws."
Mega Charizard Y
Mega Charizard Y is the second Mega Evolution form of Charizard. Mega Charizard Y stays the same color and maintains it's fire/flying type. However, this Mega Evolution form has bigger claws, horns, and wings, meaning it is more powerful and can fly faster. Mega Charizard Y also learns the move "Drought."
Mega Blastoise
Mega Blastoise is the Mega Evolution form of Blastoise. The only big change is the huge cannon on its back. But its special attack will also greatly increase. This Mega Evolution form also learns the move "Mega Launcher."
Mega Venasaur
The main physical features that differentiate Mega Venasaur from Venasaur are that the flower on its back becomes much taller and bigger, and a new decal appears right above the nose on Mega Venasaurs face. It also learns the move "Thick Fat."
How does it work?
So you're probably wondering how to get your hands on a Mega Evolution.
To get a Mega Evolution, and this is according to the Pokémon: Let's Go! official website, a player must have a Key stone and a Mega stone for each corresponding Pokémon. According to this Nintendo Soup article, you WILL NOT need two different stones to get the two different versions of Mega Charizard. You will just need one.
I want to make it clear, however, as this may be unknown to some who are not familiar will Mega Evolutions. Mega Evolutions only happen inside a battle and you CANNOT keep your Mega Evolution once the battle is over with. In order to get another Mega Evolution, you must have the right Key stones and Mega stones and you must be in a battle.
