Many times those games where the argument is not the strongest point, but if their playability, are (sometimes) the most fun and entertaining to play, since our attention will be focused solely on the mechanics of the game, and in the case of the title of which I'm going to speak, to be a game of the genre beat´em´up, our main objective will be to distribute fists and kicks to our enemies, although in this specific game, we will distribute swords and magic spells.

Today's Retro Review is from: The King of Dragons.

STORY

The story of The King of Dragons is extremely simple, which is a very characteristic aspect in this type of games, because the genre "beat´em´up" focuses (in most cases) only on ending all enemy hordes that have the audacity to face us.

The King of Dragons tells the story of a group of heroes specializing in different battle arts, whose mission is to prevent the chaos and destruction that is being caused by an evil dragon named Gilldiss, this dragon was brought back to life by a dark sorcerer, in order to destroy the kingdom. Therefore, our heroes have the task of defeating Gilldiss and returning peace to the kingdom, for this, they must face a large number of enemies, to reach the rooms of the dragon and kill him.

As I said before, in this type of games it is not necessary to have a very deep argument, because the attraction of beat´em´up is its gameplay, because it gives us the freedom to eliminate a large number of enemies using (many times), a variety of attacks, different types of magic, firearms, knives, swords or simply hand out fists and kicks.

GRAPHICS

The graphic section of The King of Dragons is all that is involved in a game beat´em´up of the old generation. Designs of characters with decent details, not spectacular at all, but with a level of detail accurate enough to even today, despite all the advanced that is the graphic aspect in today's games, does that: The King of Dragons, is not a game that looks bad at all, in fact quite the opposite, The King of Dragons is a game that when we hardly see it and we detail its graphical aspect, we can notice that it still maintains that characteristic of which in its moment it was an excellent retro game, a characteristic that so many people like so much and especially to me, that I have always liked the retro games.

Source

Like many beat´em´up, The King of Dragons used a color palette very varied and eye-catching, both in the scenarios and in the characters, highlighting by far our main heroes, who for obvious reasons, being the main characters of the game, must stand out above the enemies. Speaking of the enemies of this game, a negative aspect of The King of Dragons, is that there is not much variety in the design of the enemies, although in terms of design, are very well developed, in terms of variety, are very limited and are only reduced to changing colors to the enemies in each scenario.

SOUND

There is not much to talk about the sound aspect, The King of Dragons has the melodies that a game of the genre beat´em´up must have, even melodies set in the time in which the plot of the game is found, that is, the medieval age. As all good beat´em´up, we will find melodies that transmit emotion and that help us to enter the magical world of the game and our main task: to eliminate any enemy who has the audacity to want to face us. Because we all know that there is no better way to defeat a horde of enemies than with good music that accompanies us. Likewise, the sound effects are very good and fit well with everything we do in the game, and by bringing together the gameplay, melodies and sound effects, The King of Dragons gives us a very good and addictive game experience.

GAMEPLAY

The gameplay of The King of Dragons, like many other games beat´em´up from the old days, can be defined in one word: simple. And is that the level of learning when playing this title is quite simple and simple to learn, we will control our character with the directional keys, we will have a button to jump, which likewise help us dodge some attacks and another button to attack, that's all, nothing more was needed that to keep us many hours playing many games, in this case to beat´em´up The King of Dragons.

Source

The King of Dragons unlike other famous beat´em´up, is particularly "original" because the plot of the game focuses on a medieval world, and although there was already another game quite famous that its plot focused on a medieval world, as a very personal opinion, I consider that The King of Dragons, maintains a personality quite unique in its style, despite the fact that the main point of the beat´em´up is to hand out fists and kicks.

In The King of Dragons we have 5 characters at our disposal, each of them with different characteristics and different statuses that as we advance in the game we can increase the statutes, in such a way that we will improve our characters and make them more powerful. We have al:

Source

Fighter

Source

Cleric

Source

Dwarf

Source

These 3 characters are characterized by their melee attacks and greater resistance; also have a shield that helps us defend against certain attacks

And finally we have to:

Elf

Source

Wizard

Source

And as they have to suppose unlike the other 3, both the archer and the magician have less resistance, however they have a wide advantage over the other characters because these two attack at a distance, so that we can keep at bay certain enemies and thus protect ourselves from their attacks.

The King of Dragons is undoubtedly a game that has aged very well over the years, and few games of that time have the taste to say that, this is a game that despite not being very original, knew how to keep many people entertained around the world thanks to its excellent and addictive gameplay. Undoubtedly a game highly recommended for anyone who likes retro games.
