Nike Signs Off Their First Ever eSports Player!
The well known Nike sports brand has signed off there very firs eSports player. Nike has signed off many basketball, football, soccer, etc players but we haven never seen them sign off a eSports player!
The chosen one by Nike is, Jian ‘Uzi’ Zihao!
Jian ‘Uzi’ Zihao is of course first eSports player to be sponsored by Nike. What game dose he play, you may ask? He plays League of Legends. He is a very skilled player. He is considered one of the best League of Legends player in the world! And he is only 21! 21 and signed with Nike, I am impressed!
LeBron James is making a documentary, Shut Up And Dribble. Jian ‘Uzi’ Zihao will be working along side of LeBron and be apart of "Dribble &" marketing campaign. "Dribble &" will be supporting LeBron James upcoming show. As you can see in the picture above Zihao is wearing a "Dribble & Carry" t-shirt made by Nike. Carry, referring to the act carrying his team to victory.
Zihao has a great deal and I cannot wait to see what else Nike will be doing with eSports.
Champion also signed eSports deal before Nike
However Nike is not the first to test the waters with video games. Another sports brand named Champion has actually partnered with multi-game Team Dignitas a while back.
A while back Team Dignitas a eSports team was going through a rebranding process. They signed a apparel partnership with Champion. And Champion provided them with matching apparel.
What do you guys think of sportswear brands signing off eSports players?
I think it is a big jump. And like Nike says i think they should, "Just do it."
