Last decade technology has had important advances with great impact in videogames, resulting in better graphics engines, advanced AI, greater freedom for stage design giving finally almost perfect gameplay because each time is closer to reality. Is not uncommon to see 90’s gamer’s generation to yearn and ask for a remastering or remake of such famous franchises that marked our childhood as Mario Bros, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil and others.

It’s something almost sublime to see the announcement of a new game development since we’ll have many hours of guaranteed fun but knowing that it’ll be a remake of a ‘classic’ game can be a bittersweet feeling. Of course, you want to relive the experience of that story that messes up with your emotions, that level in a certain game that took you so many hours to overcome or maybe to kill that boss who whipped the floor with you in so many ways and now you can kill him in high definition.

But it can be a double-edged sword because creating something that’s already embodied in the minds of your crowd awakens some feelings but it’s impossible to recreate the same experience and final results can’t actually overcome first impression, even if that comes in a 16-bit presentation.

In addition to it, another common concern is the fidelity of the remake. Since we’re at 2019’s beginning and despite of technology narrows the limitation between imagination and the ability to create - superior to 30 years ago- it allows developers to innovate in creating a remake and to add new methods and techniques when designing maps or levels, looking great but breaking with what‘s already tradition. A clear example of this is the static camera angle from first Resident Evil that later turned into a more current game style camera that follows the main character much more closely and according to their movement.

Finally, I must say I don’t think the videogame industry has ran out of ideas, I think they want to tribute those games and indulge fans, meanwhile new franchises take power. I want to clear up that I’m not against this remakes. I would like to draw attention to videogames companies to be aware that, as I see it, you’re not creating something from scratch so prices and expectations of success must be taken in consideration so the possibility of bring to light more games already forgotten and give them a new rebirth doesn’t disappear. I also encourage players like me, who have requested for many years remastering or remake of old games, once this games are out we should be more grateful and criticize them with awareness and conscience.
