Good news for PlayStation 4 owners, earlier this week Sony announced that they will support cross-play with a public beta version for the popular game Fortnite. Until now, Sony kept the doors closed for other manufacturers but now it looks like they changed their mind, remarkable because early this month Sony director Kenichiro Yoshida said that Fortnite players cannot play against other players on other consoles because Fortnite is best playable on the PlayStation 4, while Fortnite already supported crossplay for a long time.

What is Cross-play?

crossplay makes it possible to play against players with other consoles such as the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PC, Mac, Android or iOS devices. Now the PlayStation 4 seems to be there.

Fortnite is the first game on the PlayStation 4 with cross-play support, but it is still unclear whether there will be other games added in the future.

What is Fortnite?

Fortnite is a shooting game that is very popular because of the free game mode Battle Royale. In Battle Royale mode you play with 100 players on a large island, the player or team that survives the longest wins. If you are killed then the game ends immediately, this creates a lot of tension while playing.

I think it's a good development that Sony finally supports crossplay, in my opinion, the console should not stand in the way of choosing who I want to play a game with. If I buy a game, I want to play against everyone regardless of what console they have.
