As the most popular digital gaming platform on PC, being able to capture a total of more than 150 million users may not be a surprise for Valve or you. However, what if Steam's efficiency is measured by the total number of users who are active online on every day, month, or simultaneously in every second!
In 2017 yesterday, Steam has succeeded in convincing 67 million of its customers to remain loyal to using Gabe Newell's platform services in each month. And now, quoted from a Melbourne Games Week event where Valve's representatives have honorably had the opportunity to make a presentation in front of the audience, the figure that was reported by Geekwire has turned out to have soared far to over 90 million this year.
There, Kristian Miller and Sean Jenkins (the Valve side) have shown the total data that the company has obtained in 2018. If you try to look closely at the picture above, apart from you who have found the number 90 million as total Steam users who are active in every month, there is also a figure of 47 million which shows the number of Steam users active in each day, 18.5 million for users who can be active online simultaneously, up to 1.6 million new buyers on Steam in a month.
The figures that are classified as a form of progress seem to have originated from the growth rate of Steam users in China. The video game analyst in the Asian region, Daniel Ahmad has stated that there are more than 30 million gamers there who are interested in using Steam services because of the existence of DOTA 2 games.
And its development is now far more wild because of the emergence of games that have been translated into Chinese, regional pricing and payment methods that are much friendlier, to the many games that have been blocked by the local government. In addition, the results of the sale of PUBG games which reportedly could sell up to 15 million copies in the bamboo curtain country also seems to be an additional factor.
From the data above, in the next few years Steam seems to still be standing firm as a distribution platform for the most sought after game by PC gamers.
