As someone whose played the last 8 Assassin Creed's games but never the 1st one I finally came full circle to experience it. Half expecting it to be some "rudimentary" title as some led me to believe I was somewhat stunned by what I found.

Not only does it have outstanding writing & dialogue but I can confidently say it has what are some of the most memorable assassination sequences of the entire series. Altaïr is an instantly memorable character as a brash & arrogant Assassin. Even if Assassin's Creed 1 lacks the complexity of latter titles I felt it more than held its own as the core experience of parkouring across a wonderful historical city to escape the guards worked very well here.

The story was quite intriguing & the city of Damascus floored me with its beauty & became one of my favorite Assassins Creed cities. An innovative & groundbreaking game.
