Apex Legends has been playable for a few weeks now and, for me, it's one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I've had in years. Predominantly a Call of Duty player for the last decade, I haven't played a single game of Black Ops 4 since the release of Apex Legends. Respawn has done an incredible job on this free-to-play battle royale and it has the potential to become one of the most popular games in the world for a long period of time if future updates meet the required standards.

With that in mind, there are a few tweaks that I would like to see implemented to improve the overall feel of Apex Legends, but none of them should be seen as a criticism of a game that is already providing a really fun experience. So, here are 4 changes that would improve Apex Legends.

Solo Mode

Perhaps the most pressing of issues to deal with is the fact that a huge amount of players are hoping for a solo mode. Sure, Apex Legends is a great team game, but it can be frustrating at times to queue as a solo player for a three-man squad.

Don't get me wrong, there have been many great players I've been teamed up with, but there have also been a lot of instances of irritation to deal with. The problem with such a team-focused mode is that players are instantly put at a huge disadvantage by the actions of unfavourable squadmates. Firstly, there appears to be a trend within which people disconnect from the game if someone chooses to play as their favourite legend. Unless you're a really talented two-man team, you're pretty much destined for failure from this point onwards and the game hasn't even started. Secondly, it's difficult to control what your teammates may do within the game itself. I dread to think how many times I've pinged a landing location to then notice one of my teammates has decided to drop as a solo player all the way across the map. You also have to deal with people refusing to help out, instead deciding to continue to loot as you desperately ping for help in a battle against three other players.

These issues would easily be resolved by adding a solo mode. Sure, it may not be as fun as playing along three other people, but it would take away the hindrance of random behavioural patterns from teammates who have no interest in helping you throughout the game.

Statistics

Something I've enjoyed about Apex Legends so far is the fact that you can choose what statistics are displayed to your squad and also all other players in the game if you're the current Champion player. However, the kind of statistics to choose from seems to be a little lacking at the moment. You can display 'Number of wins with full squad' statistics, but I'd like to see an option to display 'Total wins' instead. Likewise, you are able to display 'Total kills' which is pretty cool, but I think it would paint a bigger picture if you could also display 'Enemy knockdowns', 'K/D record', 'All time player kills' and so on. This is a small change and something that would be easy to implement. Respawn, we want to be able to show off our hard earned results.

Win Rewards

Once you've won a few games of Apex Legends, it doesn't feel as satisfying as it should to see 'You are the champion' painted across your screen. I believe this is due to the fact that there are no rewards for finishing in 1st place. If you were rewarded with something like a loot box for a win then at least there is something to open after a great victory. Another option would be to reward the player with crafting materials that they could then use to unlock further content down the line. As loot boxes become scarce as your level increases it feels like you are being forced to part with cash if you want to see any kind of decent unlock. There needs to be a balance between offering free rewards for doing well in the game but also providing cool content that people want to actually pay for.

Remain With Squad

Something that has annoyed me somewhat recently is the inability to click a button to show that you'd like to remain with your current squad in the next game. Once in a while you'll stumble across a great team who will help each other, ping loot, locations, enemy players, and be a lot of fun to play alongside. You may even win with that squad. However, when the game is over, that's it. There is no option to go into another game with the same people. I believe this would be a really cool addition that could make three-man squads more bearable for us solo players.
