Welcome to another segment of eSports News, where I gather up a couple pieces to bring to the table that might have slipped past you!
Today I'm going to cover a couple of announcements! One might make you a little upset, while the second fills you with excitement!
Let's get to it!
Street Fighter Becomes Ad-happy
Advertising has become more intense than ever. It has migrated it's way to your email inbox, every website is awash with at least 10 ads per page, and you can't even scroll social media without seeing a "suggested post" every few seconds. they are even prevalent in eSports tournaments.
It was only a matter of time before it made its way into video games, themselves. Gone are the days of subtle product placement and it seems that Street Fighter is going to be leading the way, unfortunately.
Advertisements and sponsorships will now be shown during loading screens between matches, on the fighting stage, and even on the clothing of the players. Now, you can turn off this Idiocracy-esque nightmare but there is a downside. Unfortunately, by allowing yourself to be beaten over the head by the ads, you will unlock special content and even in-game currency. At the moment, there are no third-party ads, but that will more than likely change in the future.
So in the end, you have to choose between missing out on special content or having the Pepsi logo on Chun-Li's tights. I am sure this will open a whole new door for advertisements during eSports.
The future looks... slightly obnoxious.
Xbox Game Pass Brings it's A Game
Earlier in the month, it was announced that the Xbox game pass is coming to PC, but it seems like they have their eyes on even more.
Today the vice-president of Gaming at Microsoft, Phil Spencer, hinted at the future of the gaming pass, and that appears to be everything. The goal seems to be utilizing streaming services akin to Netflix in order to bring the games you love to every device that can handle it. Tablet? Phone? Sure, why not!
With the uptick in mobile gaming with eSports it is a natural move for them to expand the pass to mobile devices. The question is: Can most phones handle the games available on the pass, though?
It is unclear when this kind of move can be expected since it is currently an ambition with no development date, but there will surely be steps made within the next year!
But even if that isn't on the docket just yet, Xbox pass holders still have something to look forward to this month!
An impressive list for the December games has dropped!
Most Xbox enthusiasts will be the most excited to learn that Below is finally coming out! It was talked about when it the Xbox One was first unveiled and it has been in limbo ever since! The Roguelike adventure game is easily considered one of the most anticipated games for the Xbox in some coming years, mainly for all the mystery surrounding it! The years-long wait ends on the 14th!
December 4th through the 13th will bring the titles Mutant Year Zero, Ashen, The Strange Brigade, Mortal Kombat X, Kingdom Two Crowns, PES19, and Spintires Mudrunner! The 17th brings Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, while the 20th will make Ori and the Blind Forest and Shadow Warrior 2 available for play!
Which is a pretty impressive spread for $9.99 a month!
