At Blizzcon this year an unexpected victor stole the championship title in the StarCraft II WCS Global Finals! What is historic is that this is the first time ever that a non-Korean holds the title!
20-year-old Joona “Serral” Sotala, the Finnish Zerg player knocked Cho “Maru” Seong Ju out at an impressive 4-2. Protoss is incredibly powerful but it seems like it was no match for Serral's Zerg onslaught this time around.
The final match was an impressive display of Aerial warfare as the opponents battled it out. But once Maru lost his mothership it was all over for the reign of Korea for the world title.
Serral was quite humble about the win, even though it was a first in history. I wouldn't be surprised to see him become the next Ninja!
Actually, speaking of Ninja...
A huge first is coming to the world of streaming and if it ends up being as popular as people hope, it could kick off a whole revolution!
For the first time ever, an animated live stream featuring Ninja and the rap artist Logic will be playing Fallout 76 with... Rick and Morty.
That's right. Pickle Rick entering The Vault!
There aren't a lot of details on exactly how this event is going to work with a live stream considering that there is the advertisement of animation involved. In fact, I am not even sure how it is possible if this event is truly live. Unless they happened to make base animation and will have the voice actors on hand.
Could it be poorly lip-synced? Will we see something absolutely mind-boggling and exciting? Will it be believable? (Well, as believable as such a thing could possibly be.)
Looks like we will have to wait to find out on the 8th! You can tune into Bethesda's Twitch or Mixer channels at 9pm ET for the event!
Jumping back to BlizzCon 2018, many people may not be impressed with some of the announcements, but they can't say that the tournaments were a letdown!
Another first happened while everyone looked on with bated breath during the Heros of the Storm competition.
For the first time ever, a team has won twice in a row! Gen.G Esports took home the trophy to be proudly displayed for a second consecutive year!
Team Dignitas got absolutely annihilated with the Grand Finals score being 3-0. A painful but impressive match!
And now on to some very sad news when it comes to a first in the world of eSports.
It was recently announced that during TwitchCon a competitive player seemingly passed away in his sleep.
The day of his passing Bogdan, the 20-year-old Swedish Fortnite star, had placed 18th place with his competition partner RazZzero0o in the fall skirmish. The prize was $10,000 and ensured that their expenses for their first trip to America and back were covered and they would have extra to enjoy themselves.
On October 29th the friends were planning to go site seeing but when RazZzero0o woke up in the morning and went to move Bogdan's arm, he found that his friend had well and truly passed.
The players had worked tireless training for Twitchcon and had put themselves under tons of stress before the competition. As of now, the cause of death hasn't been released.
He isn't gone, he's just gone "Back to Lobby", as was his catchphrase.
Rest in peace, Bogdan.
