As the New Year approaches, so begins the hustle of companies that want to start out with a bang and a little much-needed attention. When it comes to gaming and eSports, the competition is tight.

Anything that can give them a leg up in competition, bring in more players, and, of course, more money sets the tone for the rest of the year!

But since your cash might be well depleted from the winter gaming sales, or blown on all those fireworks to ring in 2019, today I will be letting you know about freebies on offer! Even the eSports competitor needs a relaxed game on the cheap every once in a while.

So once you've celebrated, sit down and have a chill gaming session with a sweet free game! That is if you haven't blown off a digit.

SOMA is free, but you have to hurry!

The creators of Amnesia the Dark Descent are the ones behind Soma, the mind-bending and quite scary underwater horror game.

Even though the game is three years old, players still enjoy it and find that it leaves you thinking about the events long after you've finished it.

I watched a couple minutes of the gameplay and I have to say, it made me uncomfortable for reasons that I couldn't put my finger on. Especially since the setting was pretty benign to start. It has a bit of a Doom/Portal feel. It touts danger around every corner with a slew of enemies such as an omnipresent AI, robots, and deadly creatures!

I downloaded it, but I am not sure if I will make it through the anxiety-inducing and unsettling atmosphere!

If you want to get your copy for free you better hurry over to GoG! It ends on December 30th at 11:00am UTC.

If this game isn't your style, there are plenty others on sale during the GoG winter sale, so you'll surely find something!

Super Meat Boy on Epic Games

With the launch of the Epic Games Store, Subnautica, the intense survival game was their first freebie.

But if you aren't into that, the cult favourite Super Meat Boy is now their next free tidbit on offer!

It's a weird one, that's for sure. If you've never heard of it, it is an extremely challenging independent platformer. You play as a character that has no skin and is tasked with saving his girlfriend (made of bandages) that is being held captive by... a fetus in a jar?

I don't really have words for this one, and it seems like the creators were on some seriously good drugs, but people seem to really love it.

Plus, you can't beat a weird AND free.

Are there any free games you have picked up lately? Any that you wish would become free? Are you downloading any right now? Let me know in the comments, I'd love to talk about it!
