As the holidays approach, companies tend to release extra content or add to the old favourites in order to bring in that extra attention and sales!

Let's take a look at a couple of games that are vying for your hard earned dollars. And they just might get it!

CS:GO Sees Unprecedented Backlash

Counter Strike: Global Offensive decided in a bold move to make the game free to play with no previous announcement or even a shred of warning.

Considering that CS:GO is one of the most popular eSports game on the market, you would think that it going free would be to the delight of many. That might be true for the newcomers but the devoted players found this to be pretty unfair.

CS:GO had a pretty decent sticker price to purchase, not to mention the in-game marketplace used to purchase weapons. It is pretty clear where the distaste comes from since many of the players that had been involved from the start have sunk quite a bit of money only to see the game become free.

But the players made sure that everyone knew exactly how displeased they actually are. Five days ago hardcore players took to Steam and started leaving scathing negative reviews to the tune of 14,000 in a single day. Even though it has slowed down significantly to about 2,000 a day, it hasn't really shown a sign of stopping.

It was expected that the Battle Royale mode that was introduced with the latest update in an attempt to bring in some of the Fortnite crowd would be the upsetting news. But far from it, it seems that many of the longtime fans are looking forward to trying out the "Danger Zone" mode.

It is just that the players know that they will never be reimbursed for all of their purchases while everyone else pays little to nothing to get the same perks.

I think I would be a bit salty, myself. But on the bright side, at least you can play for free!

Doom's 25th Anniversary

It is hard to believe that it has already been a quarter of a century since the most iconic game hit the market!

Over the years, the first person shooter that paved the way for all the games we know and love today has seen sequels, reiterations, and a plethora of fan-created mods. But in celebration of 25 years, it seems like Bethesda and even the original co-creator are getting in on the fun.

Bethesda has released a video that takes us from its humble beginnings all the way up to present day! It certainly helps to build even more excitement for the Doom Eternal that will be coming next year!

Here it is:

In other Doom anniversary news, one of the co-creators is releasing a level pack Sigil for the original Doom game! So as long as you have a registered copy of the original Doom, you will be able to enjoy the 18 levels of both single and multiplayer! But if you want more than that, you can also buy The Beast Box which includes such goodies at the Megawad data on a USB made to look like a floppy disc, a speciality T-shirt, an art print, and it comes in a fantastically intricate box signed by John Romero!

GTA Tries to Stay Relevant in Evolving Environment

With Grand Theft Auto losing a lot of players thanks to their changes that have made it nearly impossible to get in-game currency it was time for them to add something new.

With the boom of battle royale games, it was time for GTA to get in on the action and try to bring some of their players back with a new novelty.

Enter GTA Arena War, the stadium rumble dome update brings seven modes with tantalizing names! Carnage, which stays true to its name since it is a deathmatch mode; Game Masters, where you must reach checkpoints while opponents try to stop you with hazards; Capture the flag titled simply Flag Wars; Tag Team, which is pretty obvious; Here Come the Monsters, where you try to survive against a hoard of Monster trucks; Wreck it, racing that is fraught with traps; and Hot Bomb, which is passing a bomb to other players by crashing into them like a game of Hot Potato.

If you aren't happy with the stock vehicles you can always pop into the newly added Arena Workshop and customize and badass-erize until your heart is content.

This sandbox dynamic could even easily open the door for tournaments and competitive play!
