Major brands in the telecoms scene have signed a memorandum of understanding centered on broadening eSports and gaming related content creation within the networks of Singtel, Airtel, AIS, Globe, Optus, and Telkomsel.

This memorandum will have the majority of the Singtel-owned carriers working together with the gaming communities within their regions. This will involve deployment of eSports tournaments and the design and creation of original content. With this act, Singtel have made a pledge to empower and to ensure that eSports enthusiasts will be able to enjoy their sport to the fullest!

A statement from Singtel expresses they expect eSports audiences to double within the regions they support and seem to be gearing up to take advantage. With a combined customer base of over 740 million customers, I imagine this collaboration will have some serious clout, perhaps netting exclusive content? Subscriber-only player interviews? The sky’s the limit!

With network speeds in most countries being stressed by on-demand video/streaming, it is good that some serious companies have stepped up. Sintel have one of the faster networks in India, and Optus have been a top tier/top 3 network in Australia in the last 10-15 years.

And with the Singtel group having a special focus on content creation I expect they will take to the exclusive world of eSports like a duck to water.

The gaming and eSports announcement comes after Singtel bringing out a new gaming-focused broadband bundle providing gigabit speeds and a Razer Sila gaming router. So I guess we wait and see if we will see a Singtel Group Tournament Team in the near future when they go from being behind the cameras, plotting and planning the next big thing and instead in front of them!
