I've been wondering about this for a while, so I figured I'd just make a post about it and ask.

How do the fine people of Scorum feel about speedrunning? Considering e-sports are represented on Scorum, I do feel an argument could be made for a speedrunning presence, as well.

For those unaware, speedrunning is a hobby gaining popularity currently where people attempt to finish a game of their choice as quickly as possible.

It's a competitive hobby even if the competition is mainly friendly.

Some people feel it shouldn't be considered an e-sport, but if the definition of an e-sport is competitive gaming - and speedrunning is competitive gaming - I personally don't see why not.

Linked above is my current "personal best" in one of my main speed games, Mega Man X. I run the any% category, which means finishing the game as fast as possible without any mandatory item collecting, etc. There are other categories for games such as 100%, meaning collecting all the collectibles in a given game and whatnot.

Top level runners put years into their craft, and while speedrunning is an easy and relatively cheap hobby to pick up, mastering your speedgame takes thousands of hours and years to do.

I don't see why speedrunning should get shafted when discussing e-sports, personally.

How does everyone here feel? Familiar with speedrunning at all? Could it be considered an e-sport?
