Last weekend the Vuelta started in Málaga. Now that the first five stages have been done, it is time to look forward to the two next stages.
Current standings
After a successful breakaway yesterday, Rudy Molard (Groupama - FDJ) is wearing the red jersey for the leader in the general classification. Michal Kwiatkowski (Sky) is first in the points classification (green jersey) and Luis Angel Mate Mardones (Cofidis) is leading the climber classification (polka dot jersey).
Stage 6: Huércal-Overa > San Javier. Mar Menor
Today (August 30th) looks like a day for the sprinters. The stage is 155 km long and stretches along the Murcian coast most of the time. After winning stage 3 by a huge margin Elia Viviani (Quick Step) looks like the favorite for the stage win. However there are some other sprinters, like Peter Sagan, Danny van Poppel and Nacer Bouhanni, that probably won't (like to) make it easy for him.
Stage 7: Puerto-Lumbreras > Pozo Alcón
Tomorrow the riders are leaving the coast and directing to the outback of Spain. This is another stage that is classified as flat. As you can see below however, the profile shows quite some up and down during the route. Maybe that means that attackers have a larger chance of staying away during the stage. If not, there will most likely be a bunch sprint with (nearly) all sprinters still present. Maybe a Sagan day?
What are your predictions for these stages? Will we see two peloton sprints or will the attackers win at east one? And will Molard still be in the red jersey after tomorrow? Let me know in the comments below.
