Molano can cheer for the second time in Tour of Burgos, Jordi Meeus is fifth
Colombian Juan Sebastian Molano (Team UAE) has won his second stage in the Tour of Burgos. In the fourth stage between Roa and Aranda de Duero he was again fastest in a bunch sprint. The day before yesterday he also won the second stage of the Spanish stage race. Today he beat Jon Aberasturi (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) and Vincenzo Albanese (EOLO-Kometa). Our compatriot Jordi Meeus (BORA-hansgrohe) was fifth.
Frenchman Romain Bardet (Team DSM) continues to lead the standings and maintains his 45-second lead over his first pursuer, Spaniard Mikel Landa. The Tour of Burgos ends tomorrow with an uphill finish in Lagunas de Neila.
Premier Tech withdraws from Astana squad
Cycling team Astana will have to do without co-sponsor Premier Tech from next year. The Canadian packaging company announced yesterday that it would end the collaboration after five years, leaving the Kazakh shareholders as the sole name sponsor again. Premier Tech is not going to disappear from cycling as it steps into a new story with another, yet to be announced, WorldTour team.
Astana stands for a thorough facelift in the mid-season. Several riders - including Alexandr Vlasov - are on their way to the exit, while Vincenzo Nibali is rumored to be about to return.
No Belgians in Vuelta selection Trek-Segafredo
Trek-Segafredo will go to the Tour of Spain without Belgians Jasper Stuyven and Edward Theuns. The selection is built around the Italian Giulio Ciccone, who is aiming for a good final score. The 26-year-old Ciccone, already good for two stage victories in the Giro in his career, is supported by his compatriot Gianluca Brambilla and the Frenchman Kenny Elissonde. In the mountains, Trek-Segafredo is also counting on Spaniard Juan Pedro Lopez and Italian Antonio Nibali. For the flat and hilly stages, Luxembourger Alex Kirsch and American Kiel Reijnen will be outplayed. 20-year-old American Quinn Simmons, who won the Tour de Wallonia last month, will make his debut in a grand tour.
