Hi, friends!

It's really rare occasion that lower category car wins against higher category car in the World Rally Championship. And we are talking about the top world class drivers, maybe from the best era of rallying when the guys like McRae, Makinen, Kankunen, Burns, Auriol, Sainz sr etc ruled the world of sport.

I grew up watching them. I knew from the second half on '90's about the F2 category and their screaming engines which revved sometimes up to 10000rpm (like Peugeot). To listen that noise alive was great experience. I heard that F2 cars alive and their sound is really amazing.

Now we have only turbo engines at the top of the sport. That's also because of the green and eco stuff. I understand this and I support this.

So, I have to say that it was a miracle when Citroen Xsara F2 kit car won in Corsica and Catalunya in 1999. Carlos Sainz sr was really upset about that because like he said: "It's not normal that F2 car wins in front of F1 car in Formula 1. But in World Rally Championship it's kinda a normal."

The thing is that kit cars were around 280 kg lighter then WRC cars at that time with the engine power little bit less powerful then WRC cars but with only front wheel drive against 4WD from WRC cars.

F2 kit cars were really fast on dry tarmac and their speed was really visible. Bugalski won that Rally Sanremo and the rest you see in the video. It's on Spanish but don't worry, just listen to that beautiful noise from the engines.

Cheers!

Thanks for the photos and video to WRC.com and Youtube.

Enjoy some beer!
