As I wrote earlier this week, Hyundai works on a new i20 R5 rally car with their works drivers Andreas Mikkelsen and Brian Bouffier testing at the moment on tarmac. They still use the old chassis but they officially said they will use a new chassis as soon as it will be ready and available to buy on the market as a normal road car.

To make FIA legal R5 rally car, it must be homologated and that means that base of the car must be from the street legal car that you can buy in any car saloon. Manufacturer must homologate the car and prepare it on the FIA rules about R5 class.

Hyundai WRC team boss Andrea Adamo said they are not completely satisfied with their old i20 R5 car which is pretty normal because that car had very weak engine and couldn't match the speed of their competition.

That's why they decided to make a new R5 car much better. They even want to make an official WRC2 Pro entry in 2020 if everything with budget will go on the plan.

They say also that Craig Breen will have a 20 days testing program early next year for that car. Does that mean that he is under the contract with Hyundai for 2020?! There was no any official press release about it.

We can only hope that the new car will be much better then the old one.
