Hi, friends!
Carlos Sainz sr was known as rally ambassador all over the world. I started to follow him in 1992 when I was 'crazy' about rallying.
The first car I noticed with Carlos was Toyota Cellica GT-4, group A and it was amazing to watch. I enjoyed that golden days of sport.
Later he was with the Lancia team, but it was the Jolly Club, private outfit of legendary Lancia team.
He drove also for Subaru, Ford and Citroen.
Rally Mexico is a gravel event and Carlos Sainz sr was equally good on both surfaces - gravel and tarmac.
To be a double World Rally Champion, you have to be excellent on every surface.
The interesting thing is that he was entered into Citroen World Rally Team in 2003 because of the sponsorship money from Telefonica Movistar.
He was better in points then Colin McRae at the end of the 2003 season so he kept his seat while McRae lost his job for 2004.
In that 2004 Sainz sr scored his last win on the gravel of Mexico. He finished his WRC career at the end of that 2004 season but he had to drive three rallies in 2005 instead of Francois Duval who kept crashing whole season.
Carlos Sainz sr drives Dakar Rally every season and after this season's edition he lost his drive at Peugeot because they decided to quit their participation.
There are some news that he will be a part of Mini X-Raid squad but it's still unconfirmed.
Please watch, learn and enjoy...
Grab a beer and enjoy!
Cheers! :)
