Australian rider Daniel Ricciardo will end his long relationship with Red Bull and join Renault with a two-year contract starting next season, at the announcement that surprised Formula 1 ahead of the August holiday

Ricciardo's career with Red Bull was quite long because it started from junior time. Ricciardo's debut in F1 began in mid-2011 when Red Bull placed him in the HRT Formula 1 Team and he later joined the Toro Rosso satellite team in 2012.

Ricciardo spent two years with Toro Rosso before finally joining the Red Bull first team to become a substitute rider who accompanied Sebastian Vettel in 2014.

After four years with Red Bull Racing, Ricciardo was preparing to leave the team. Although Ricciardo was widely heard he would move to Renault but until this news was revealed there had been no official statement from Renault.

On the other hand, Red Bull Racing is preparing to evaluate Max Verstappen's performance and look for the right candidate to replace Ricciardo.

"We are grateful for Ricciardo's dedication since joining the team in 2014. What needs to be emphasized is that he won seven times and 29 podiums while he was with us," said Horner.

Ricciardo wants a two-year contract to keep his options open and level with top riders, including four-time world champion Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes and Ferrari rider Sebastian Vettel, who is also contracted until 2020.

"I realize that there is still much to be achieved by making Renault reach their target of competing at the highest level, but I am fascinated by their development in just two years," Ricciardo said in a Renault statement.
