Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) set a new record on Saturday at the Marina Bay Circuit, where the Formula 1 Grand Prix takes place on Sunday with a time of 1'36.015.

"It was magic, it was one of the best laps I've ever had in my career," Hamilton said in quick interviews following the qualifying session.

The defending champion beat Sebastian Vettel's previous record of 1'39.491, but performed with a slightly different configuration from the circuit, changed this year.

At his side will be Max Verstappen (Red Bull), who considered it "a victory" to get out of second place, after the problems felt throughout the free practice without rhythm for the main rivals. Even so, the Dutch driver was 0.319 seconds faster.

Disappointed was Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari), who was not beyond the third position, already to 0.613 seconds of the leader of the league, having been the fastest in the free practice of this Saturday morning.

The Singapore Grand Prix is ​​the 15th race of the season. Lewis Hamilton is the leader of the championship, with 256 points, 30 more than Sebastian Vettel, who is the second.
