It was somewhere in August and the year was 2003 , I was so excited because I was going to attend my first Formula 1 race live at the Hockenheimring in Germany instead of watching it in front of my TV!!

Ferrari F1 - V10

I heard all those stories from friends about how loud those V10 F1 engines sounds in real live and how this sound and experience cannot be compared to anything else... So after we bought tickets and some hearing protectors(on Friends advice) we made the five-hour drive to Hockenheim. After a long drive we arrived in Hockenheim we took our seats and waited for the race to start (we bought cheaper tickets so we didn't had a clear view on the start grid). Then after waiting for a while and with all the cars ready on the start grid waiting for the lights to go out... It was going to happen, I was finally going to witness it with my own eyes and EARS 5..4..3..2..1 those 5 seconds .. This sound in the far distance it was like a Volcano that was about to erupt.. A monster coming alive eating everybody and everything on its way.. The sound was more than I could ever dream of and beyond all my expectations! Too bad Kimi Räikkönen had a Huge Crash at the start so the first couple of laps the F1 cars were behind the safety car not showing their real potential. But then with the safety car removed all hell broke loose .. The sound.. I can't describe it, it was so loud!! Still getting Goosebumps while writing this post and how it reminds me to that specific day. Watch this video to hear what is to me the best engine sound ever.

Best F1 engine sound ever

The last Formula 1 race I visited was in 2016 (Spa Francorchamps) I was so disappointed about the sound the new engines produced, the engines used in the GP2 series were even louder so imagine.. It's very impressive how much horsepower they can get out of those V6 engines but, "and don't get me wrong I am for a better and greener world and less pollution" I think Formula 1 should not be about fuel saving, using batteries for more power or using "greener" engines. It should be all about the noise, burnt rubber and the smell of fuel so that.. after a race when you are driving home with a big smile on your face and think. Damn I witnessed something special today. I totally missed that feeling after my last race :-(.

Watch this great F1 engine sound comparison video and you know what I mean

F1 engine sound comparison 2013 V8 and 2014 V6

A couple of weeks ago I read a interview with Ross Brawn (he is the Formula One Managing Director of Motorsports and technical director) about the future of Formula 1 where he said:

"it is conceivable that Grand Prix racing could become an all-electric series in the next ten years if the quality of the racing follows the technology."

This scared me because I think that would be the end of Formula 1 racing. Please share me your thoughts about the new Engines, the new regulations etc..

In 10 years I want to bring my son the same smile to his face as I had 15 years ago and say to him... Now this is Formula 1 my son!!

So give me back my V10!! :-)
