Australian, Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull is leading after first practice at the Hungarian Grand Prix taking place this weekend.

The Red Bull main driver was quicker than Ferrari’s Vettel by 0.079 seconds. However, he had the edge over Vettel; as he was running on harder tyres than the German who is chasing Mercedes’s Hamilton on the standings.

Of the fastest three cars, which were separated by just 0.088secs, Ricciardo and Red Bull’s teammate Max Verstappen was the third fastest.

Fourth in speed was Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari, who was 0.335secs off the pace. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamiton had a spin at Turn five and was fifth fastest and Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas in sixth.

Hamilton wasn’t the only driver to suffer lose of control on the challenging and twisty dusty track surface in Hungary.

Marcus Ericsson of Sauber narrowly escaped a significant collision with the barriers after he had two spins in the final corner early on, and a high-speed spin in Turn five at the uphill kink.

Max Verstapppen also had a spin, as well as the second Sauber driver Antonio Giovinazzi who had experienced a lock-up early in the practice session while driving Charles Leclerc’s car.

Brendon Hartley of Toro Rosso also spun at the end of the session at the final corner.

With Mercedes experiencing a difficult weekend, coupled with the Hungarian track that is believed to not be suitable for their car, Ferrari and Red Bull may have the edge in the race.

Haas driver Romain Grosjean managed to eclipse the rest behind the top six after he jumped ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Renault at the end of the session.

Nico Hulkenberg had an engine shutdown which led to him stopping off the track. He was unable to run for the last half-hour.

His teammate Carlos-Sainz was next, followed by Kevin Magnussen of Haas, Pierre Gasly of Toro Rosso, and Fernando Alonso of McLaren.
