Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is likely to revive the Formula One (F1) race at the Sepang Circuit, Malaysia, which was closed last year.

"Maybe," he said when asked by reporters during the installation of lights along the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) as a sign that the competition would again be held by SIC at Sepang on Wednesday night.

As reported by the News Agency Bernama Thursday (2/8) Mahathir previously drove a Ferrari car on the 5,543 kilometer circuit as a symbol of the inauguration of the "Circuit Lights" that night.

Mahathir said a higher lighting level was needed if SIC wanted to run the race at night.

"For F1, lighting is a little brighter because the amount of lighting is now not bright. He will complicate broadcasting work," he said.

Mahathir said that SIC has the potential to become a major sporting city and as a platform for advancing motor sport in this country.

"Sepang may be a major sports city where everyone who is interested in this sporting activity or interpreter can come here and learn to advance in this field," he said.

Sports and Syed Youth Minister Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said back to the Cabinet to determine whether the F1 race would be held again in Malaysia. (*)
