Worst Possible start!

Well Gameweek 5 got off to the worst possible start with me forgetting to get my two free transfers in before the deadline. I didn't even have a chance to log in and see who was injured or likely to play, and pick my starting 11. I'd have to have faith in my team picked from weeks ago.

That's what happens when there are a couple of weeks between gameweeks. You kind of just forget about it and then on Tuesday evening around 6pm or thereabouts, I think to myself, I better log in and change my team and make a few transfers. It then dawns on me all of a sudden...

The Early Feckin Matches

You'd think I'd have gotten used to these 5pm kickoffs by now, but no, 5 gameweeks in, it is still cathing me out. Gameweek 6 is going to be different, I will remember this time. I will.

I won't will I? :o)

So, I resigned myself to the fact that there was nothing I could do now, so I said, I wouldn't even bother logging in yet. Instead, I'd wait until the matches were over and log in and have a look then.

Ok, the matches have just ended, so let's have a little look , shall we..

The 3 big guns fired

My 3 big hitter strikers came up trumps with a goal or an assist apiece and most importantly Mr Bale got his goal. It is essential your captain gets his goal or assist, so you get some benefit for those double points. I'm not sure if I will tinker too much with that front 3 for next time out, we'll have to wait and see. It's hard to know if it's worth getting Messi back in just yet, as he might not even play the next game, but the little wizard will be drafted back in for the next round after Christmas, that's for sure.

liverpool Duo

Even though Liverpool left Paris with nothing, and indeed they didn't deserve to leave with anything, the two Pool players I have Milner and Mané combined for the goal they managed on the night.

Sadio Mané was hacked down by a badly timed challenge from Angel Di Maria, and Milner was left with the duty of beating Buffon in goal. He duly delivered, as he sent the Italian the wrong way.

It was a nice bit of business for me. Liverpool only got the one goal, and I had the goal scorer and assist getter, so happy days.

A belter of a game

Here in Ireland, Virgin Media Sports have launched a number of Pop Up channels whereby each and every game is televised, so while watching the Real Madrid game on the telly, I was flicking between the other games on my phone App. There was one game that stood out with loads of action and that was Hoffenheim vs Shakhtar Donetsk. The game was end-end and really exciting.

Yes there was some atrocious defending, but most people watch soccer for goals and attacking football, and that was certainly in abundance in this match. Would a fan of Italian style defending think the same, probably not, but you get the idea!

This game fizzed into life in the 13th when Ismailly put the visitors into a surprise lead. If that wasn't surprise enough, then the 15th minute goal from Taison proved that the Ukrainian boys hadn't read the script at all, and were now firmly in control.

That control lasted all of 2 minutes, as the Bundesliga outfit were allowed back into the tie, Krameric finished a great move to make it 2-1. I bet there was at least one fan who nipped to the bathroom after 12 minutes and couldn't believe his eyes when he came back!

This game was a little more interesting also, because I knew I had Ismailly and another couple of Shakhtar players in my team, so I was delighted to see the Brazilian get on the scoresheet. Sure, they might concede a shedload of goals, but they score their fair share as well, so they can be decent players to have in your squad.

Solid Defence

My back 3 did great this week. Ismailly, as per above managed a haul of 10 points and Marcelo and Cancelo were rewarded with 6 points apiece for their respective clean sheets. So, 22 points from the back 3, a nice solid return.

OK, so you managed 61 points, how is that all important table looking at this stage?

It sees me climb back into the top 10, which I am happy with and I have gained some road on 6 of the 10 players on front of me, so hopefully I can keep the momentum and climb another few places in gameweek 6.

Thanks a lot for reading my post.

Peace Out.
