On Thursday, July 24th, 1952, India defeated the Netherlands 6-1 in the gold medal game to win the seventh gold medal in Olympic men’s field hockey history. It was the fifth gold medal for India in Olympic men’s field hockey. The Netherlands took the silver medal with the loss, claiming their second silver medal in Olympic men’s field hockey. Great Britain defeated Pakistan 2-1 in the bronze medal game, grabbing their first bronze medal in Olympic men’s field hockey history.

The tournament was held in Finland, with Helsinki as the host city. Balbir Singh Sr. of India and Hugo Budinger of Germany led the tournament in goals scored with nine each.
