It was the first gold medal for Belgium in Olympic men’s field hockey. Australia took the silver medal with the loss, claiming their fourth silver medal in Olympic men’s field hockey. India defeated Germany 5-4 in the bronze medal game, grabbing their third bronze medal in Olympic men’s field hockey history. The tournament was held in Japan, with Tokyo as the host city.
