It was the first gold medal for Argentina in Olympic men’s field hockey. Belgium took the silver medal with the loss, claiming their first silver medal in Olympic men’s field hockey. Germany defeated the Netherlands 1-1, after winning the shootout round 4-3, in the bronze medal game, grabbing their fifth bronze medal in Olympic men’s field hockey history.
