Depression is real.

Suppressing emotions do not help at all and it is sad that in a country such as Nigeria, it is only now that discussions about depressions is picking up.

Life is not easy. It is said that the challenges makes us stronger. Struggling to make a name for ourselves, take care of our families and just enjoy the wavy ride of life can be difficult. Not everyone can withstand the pressure and this is why there has been an increase in the cases of suicide these recent years. High Blood pressure is no longer a sickness for old people, young people in their late twenties and early thirties are now suffering from this ailment.

The next question to ask is, 'how then can we fight depression?'

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE WHO LOVE YOU.

It is important to note that this may not necessarily be your family. Yes, they love you, but they might not know how to encourage you in a way that would uplift you. You need to stay away from people who tear you down. People who are currently in a negative state of mind. People who do not look at the brighter side of situations. Run away from these kind of people. They can never help you overcome depression. They would only make you sink deeper in depression and you do not want that.

ENGAGE IN PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

Run, Do yoga, go for dance classes, participate in martial arts or taekwondo, listen to encouraging audio clips while taking long walks.

MEDITATION IS KEY

I have always said that as humans, we have to take charge of our thoughts. But believe me when I tell you that this is no easy task. Meditating consciously helps you take charge of things you think about. What you focus on during this time is very important. Focus on happy thoughts and be grateful for them.

Always try to keep your mind in a positive state.

I pray we achieve or hopes and dreams, I hope we get to reach our full potential. If you are going through this issue please talk to someone you trust who can be there for you.
