So like I said in the previous post our level of willpower far exceeds the amount we use throughout the day, our brains just like to set a limit on it. But in the end, you have all the control you need to construct good steps for your brain to accept.

At the previous post, we broke down 3 out of 5 strategies one can use to recharge his or her willpower. We made mention of Chunking, confidence, and View Of Willpower.

Now let's look at the 4th strategy to empower us to control our willpower.

One of the strategies is... Identity:

Identity:

Everyone we meet or see them once a while have a way they judge us mostly base on our identity and what they know us to be. We must all have an identity that will align with our goals or a habit we are trying to establish or build. This helps to decrease the amount of willpower required.

So the big question is how can we change our identity? It's all about the way we react or phrase things towards problems that come our way which can affect how we view ourselves. For example, if an urge arises to drink instead of saying to yourself I can't drink cause I told myself never to drink, we should rather be thinking or saying to ourself that I am not a drunkard. So you will see the first example still identifies with someone who wants to stop drinking but cannot quit and while the person in the second example identifies himself not to be a drunkard and over time he will be used to it and the progress will reduce the amount of willpower, to begin with. And also another trick is to replace words like I can't, I have to, I must with I want to help you to agree with your new identity. The fifth strategy is called high-level thinking.

Be Different

High-level thinking:

It's believed that people who spend more time to think in an extraordinary way have higher levels of willpower than those with low levels of plans towards it. With low-level thinking it makes you wonder about how you must execute a problem and high-level thinking is when you ask why that plan of going to the gym is needed, why you want to reduce weight. There is nothing wrong to think low-level thoughts because they are needed to plan ahead. But high-level thoughts creates a sense of purpose or meaning. If you think about why you need to visit the gym you will start to believe that visiting the gym is best for you.

CHANGE THE WAY YOU THINK EVERYWHERE YOU FIND YOURSELF. YOU ARE STRONGER THAN YOU THINK.
