Sokratis replaced by Holding

Arsenal have been dealt a great blow with defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos set to be sidelined in the for the foreseeable future due to an injury sustained in the 2-0 victory over Everton at the Emirates stadium.

The Greek defender was taken off after getting in a challenge with former Arsenal forward, Theo Walcott and was replaced by Rob Holding in the 39th minute.

Sokratis has played every minute of Arsenal's Premier League campaign so far, having formed a formidable partnership with Shkodran Mustafi in the absence of club captain, Laurent Koscielny, who is out with an Achilles injury he sustained in May.

The 30-year old joined Arsenal in July as one of the first signings of coach Unai Emery from Borussia Dortmund in a deal reportedly worth £17.7 million and has almost immediately stamped his authority.

Arsenal's injury crisis at the back continues injured and yet to feature for Arsenal this season.

The Gunners have four matches in quick succession before the next international break and losing Sokratis is a big blow to their title challenge.

They are next in action against Brentford on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup.
