The second half of the 5th match day in the Champions League concluded last night with a host of teams having to wait until the last match day to know their fate.

Some, their fate lie with them while for others, they would hope that others do them the favour. Let's take a quick look...

**Group A**

Atletico Madrid have eased into the knockout stage of the Champions League courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Monaco.

The Madrid side compounded the woes on the Thierry Henry led side, who only just got their first league win against Caen over the weekend.

With injury hitting the French side, Henry was left with no choice than to feature 4 teenagers one of which the ball deflected off for Atleti's first goal from Koke's strike.

Antoine Griezmann then doubled the lead before Radamel Falcao wasted a glorious opportunity from the spot to set up a nervy ending.

Atletico are top of the group with 9 points, after Borussia Dortmund played out a barren draw with Club Brugge, leaving the German log leaders on 8 points.

Dortmund must win their last game against Monaco and hope Atleti fail to win against Club Brugge. Should Club Brugge defeat Dortmund, the German side would have to settle for the Europa League.

Atleti need just a draw while hoping Dortmund do not get a win to seal top spot.

**Group B**

Barcelona confirmed their top spot in group B after a 2-1 victory away at unlucky PSV Eindohven on Wednesday night.

The hosts hit the bar on three occasions in the first 45 and were quite wasteful in front of goal.

It was Lionel Messi with his magic once again, coming to the rescue of the Catalan club before he turned provider again for Gerard Pique to double the lead.

PSV then pulled one bad in the dying minutes but there was no much time to rally a comeback.

In the other group game, Tottenham gave themselves a glimmer of hope by beating Inter Milan 1-0, taking them level on points with the Italian side.

Inter Milan needed just a draw to seal their passage into the last 16 but Christian Eriksen struck with ten minutes on the clock remaining to set up a tense last match day.

Spurs must win at already qualified Barcelona to stand a chance of qualifying and hope PSV do the spoilers against Inter.

**Group C**

In what is arguably the tightest group of all, all top three teams can still qualify out of the group.

Paris Saint Germain pushed Liverpool to the brink of ouster with a 2-1 victory over the Reds who now need to beat Napoli at Anfield in a fortnight to qualify.

Goals from Bernat and Neymar gave the French champions the lead before James Milner on his 150th Liverpool appearance pulled one back from the spot.

Neymar's strike takes him to 31 champions league goals, making him the highest scoring Brazilian in the competition, a record previously held by former Real Madrid and AC Milan star Ricardo Kaka.

Napoli also cruised to a 3-1 win over Red Star Belgrade to go top of the group and needing just a draw to cement their qualification into the knockout stage although, a win would guarantee them top spot.

Anything short of a win against Napoli would mean Liverpool relegated to the Europa League while PSG can still take the group should they win against Belgrade and Napoli fail to win.

It sets for a final 90 minute across all grounds on the last match day.
