Liverpool on Saturday set a club record seven straight win in the opening fixtures of a campaign following their 3-0 thrashing of Southampton at Annfield.

The Reds have only for the third time in their history since 1987/1988 and 1990/1991 seasons won the first six opening league games.

Liverpool took the lead courtesy of an own goal from Hoedt before Joel Matip and Mohammed Salah completed the rout.

This means Liverpool are top of the log, having won all of their six opening matches but could be joined at the top on by Chelsea if the Blues win their game against West Ham United on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp's men would however have their resolve tested in the coming weeks with games against Napoli and Manchester City as well as a double header against Chelsea.

Liverpool came into the game on the back of a 3-2 win against Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League with a last gasp Roberto Firmino finish.

The victory was slightly tainted with Virgil Van Dijk who was obviously taken out with a rib injury.
