Manchester United according to reports have ended their pursuit of want-away Barcelona defender, Yerry Mina to focus more on Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld.

Mina joined Barcelona in January from Palmeiras but had a disappointing five months with the Liga Champions as he did not seem to fit into manager, Ernesto Valverde's plans.

He has been linked with a move away from the club less than half a year into life at the Camp Nou after been limited to just five league appearances last season.

Despite having an outstanding World Cup outing with Colombia where he scored three goals, he has further fallen down the pecking order, following the arrival of French defender, Clement Lenglet from Sevilla.

Everton were reported to be interested in the Colombia international before Man United also registered their interest, seeing him as an alternative to highly pride priced duo of Leicester City's Harry Maguire and Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld.

United have now decided to drop out of the race for his signature to focus more attention on Alderweireld, leaving Everton as the most likely only suitor.

It is however yet to be known if Everton will revive their interest in the defender as they felt maltreatment in the negotiations immediately United showed interest.

A move to England is looking less likely as the Premier League transfer window closes on Thursday, 9th August, prior to the League kicking off the following day. He could however secure a move to other clubs outside England as the general transfer window shuts by 31st August.
