It is no news, even to a new generation football lover the kind of player Mesut Ozil is. Right from when he was signed by Arsene Wenger, we all understood that the kind of player he is. So, there is no new thing about his playing style. With Unai Emery coming in, I believe he would have understood the kind of player the German is.

Ozil has not been included in the matchday squad in the Premier League for five consecutive weeks and has only played once in the league this season, the embarrassing 2-2 draw with Watford. Just like the game against Crystal Palace, Arsenal squandered a comfortable two-goal lead. His only other appearance was in the Carabao Cup win against Nottingham Forest.

The issue between Emery and Ozil did not just start today, it had been on from last season after the Spaniard dropped Ozil from his team, stating that the former Real Madrid man needed to work harder and earn his place on the team. Without any doubt, it is expected that every player contributes to the success of the team however, all players cannot contribute in the same style, manner or approach which is the problem with the Ozil situation.

Since the beginning of this season, forget that Arsenal has been able to grind out some wins, the team has struggled with Creativity, especially in the final third. All midfielders fielded by Emery are not as creative as Ozil save for Dani Ceballos who himself, even though not up to the Ozil class, has not been given enough playing time, perhaps, because he is a loanee. Nonetheless, you should use all the ammunition you have to get the result you want.

In the game against Vitoria Gemares last Thursday ion the Europa League, thanks to Nicolas Pepe's final ten minutes brilliance, Arsenal struggled to create chances and the fans began to make chants calling for the return of Ozil to the team. It will interest you to know that, Arsenal managed less than 5 shots on target in the match loss to Sheffield United and victory over Vitoria combined. Only two shots on target against Sheffield and the three shots against Vitoria resulted in the three goals that won the game.

MY OPINION

While I feel Ozil should not be pampered and given special treatment, he is still our highest wage earner at £350,000 weekly, that's a huge amount to waste every week because technically that is what the club is doing. Giving someone a whooping £1.4 million every month for doing nothing is absolutely absurd. Forget the news by Emery that the decision to drop Ozil is an agreed upon by the executives, it still hinges on him to do the needful and bring Ozil back into the team.

Apart from him being the highest paid at the club, he is arguably the most creative player in the club yet and even though he may have his off days on the pitch, Ozil is one of the greatest creators the football world has ever seen. According to Opta stats in 2018, Ozil is had created the highest number of assists in Europe between 2006 and 2018, tallying up a total of 1033, more than any player in Europe.

While Ozil may be tagged as lazy and physically weak, what he lacks in those aspects, he makes up for it in intelligence, creativity and assists. I hope someone speaks sense into Unai Emery's head very soon.
