In what was definitely one of Arsenal's finest outings in many years against a top side in the League, the North London Derby was a true test of the Gunners' resolve and they most definitely did not disappoint.

Since losing the first two games of the season to Manchester City and Chelsea, the Gunners are on a 19-game Unbeaten run in all competitions.

Interesting is the fact that, for all league matches they have won this season, they have always fallen behind at the interval and this match was no exception, even though they scored first.

After qualifying for the knockout stage of the Europa League with a much rotated side on Thursday, Unai Emery returned to his main team for action against their fiercest neighboring rivals.

Conspicuously missing from the game was Mesut Ozil who has been out of the team in recent weeks due to injuries and lack of match fitness. The German was most definitely not missed.

With a bite that Arsenal lacked in the latter part of the Wenger era, they started the match with much hunger, more like a team with purpose.

Deservedly, they took the lead on the 10th minute after Jan Vertoghen ridiculously handled the ball with his hand from an Arsenal corner. Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang stepped up to convert the resulting spot kick, sending Hugo Lloris the wrong way.

Arsenal continued their dominance but a moment of loss of concentrating led to Tottenham drawing level from a set piece. Eric Dier connecting well to beat Bernd Leno on the near post.

Dier's celebration in front of the home fans sparked a moment of madness that took the intervention of officials and even Mauricio Pochettino had to race down the flank to prevent serious scuffles with players from both benches joining in.

Tottenham looked risen from the dead when they took the lead four minutes later. Rob Holding needlessly lunging Son Heung Min in the 18-yard box. Harry Kane made no mistake from 12 yards out, completing the turnaround for Spurs.

Unai Emery made two changes at the interval, bringing on Alexandre Lacazette and Aaron Ramsey for Henrikh Mhiktaryan and Alex Iwobi who was not on his best outing on the afternoon.

The changes reinvigorated Arsenal and they started the second half just like they had started the first and it paid dividends 11 minutes in. Lucas Torreira realising Ramsey who with an outstretched leg squared to Aubameyang on the edge of the box.

The Gabonese without hesitation hit a first time shot that Lloris could only stand glued to the spot and watch the ball rack into his net. His second strike was his 10th in the league, which takes him top of the scorers chart.

One of the many positives that Emery has brought into the Arsenal team is the steel to always bite back and match their opponents whether with physicality or tenacity.

The summer arrival of Torreira who was named Man of the Match, has been another blessing for Unai Emery's revolution. His ball win rate, tackles, interceptions and eye for long balls have set him apart. He looks like the missing link in the already fluid Arsenal midfield.

With about 20 minutes of regulation time remaining, substitute, Alexandre Lacazette got his name on the scorers sheet with a well taken left footed shot that came off Eric Dier.

Just when Tottenham were looking for a way back, Torreira capped what was an outstanding afternoon for him with a well taken strike in the box on the 74th minute to score his first Arsenal goal and kill any hope of a comeback from Spurs.

The Uruguayan took off his shirt in wild jubilation caring less about the yellow card to follow.

To add salt to the already deepening injury was Eric Dier who received his matching orders with few minutes to go for a second bookable offence following his first booking for handling the ball.

Arsenal leapfrog their local rivals on the log and it was one of the best afternoons to be an Arsenal fan on a Derby day.

This kind of display was found wanting during the closing stages of the Wenger era which made counted them out of the title contending teams.

However, with Emery, the energy level has been unbelievable. The confidence players now have to play from the back. A player like Holding has now become a regular in the team, getting better by each game and although was the culprit for the second goal, he had a fantastic outing.

Perhaps, if the Gunners continue at this level and maybe even get better, we may well be celebrating them with titles come the close season.
