Right on this day, October 24, 157 years ago, two members of Sheffield cricket, along with a group of other amateur players met at Parkfield House. They agreed to form a football club which was then named according to the origin of the city, namely Sheffield FC.

The intention of the initiator, Nathaniel Creswick and William Prest is actually simple, namely that Sheffield cricketers remain fit in winter. That is where the cricket competition is on a temporary holiday.

There is a lot of debate about who founded the first soccer club in the world. However, the fact that Sheffield FC is a club that is still active until now makes its position stronger. Especially with the support of a number of references ranging from archives to neat historical records of the FA.

Sheffield FC also contributes to some rules of modern football. Starting from the use of offside to free kick when a violation occurs. On October 21, 1858, the club officially issued football rules and was used by several clubs in North England. They joined the FA in 1863, but only followed the rules made by the English football association in 1879.

At that time several amateur clubs and football teams in British schools were still using their respective rules. Sheffield FC even still voted as an amateur club when the FA began to introduce professional football in 1885.

Even the administrators until their supporters continued to campaign to maintain the authenticity of football until now. Currently Sheffield FC plays in the southern division of the Northern Premier League, which is the eighth level in the English football pyramid.

In 2004, Sheffield became one of only two clubs to have received the FIFA Order of Merit. The highest award for someone / group that has a tremendous impact on football, another club is Real Madrid.
