Arsenal have put forward a 25-man squad to compete in this season's Europa League - but it includes three notable absentees.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith-Rowe - some of the club's finest and most promising young talent - have all missed out.
But there is a perfectly reasonable explanation for their absence, as discovered by our friends at
Football.London.
The trio of young talent are not included in the 25-man squad because they can be named on the club’s B list, as they fall under certain UEFA Requirements.
UEFA rules state: "A player may be registered on List B if he is born on, or after, 1 January 1997 and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday (players aged 16 may be submitted if they have been registered with the club for the previous two years).
"Clubs are entitled to register an unlimited number of players on List B during the season, but the list must be submitted by no later than 24:00CET the day before a match."
So that means Emery will still be able to include players such as Nketiah, Smith-Rowe and Maitland-Niles in his match day squads for Europa League games, as long as their names are submitted the day before the game.
Injured duo Sead Kolasinac and Laurent Koscielny are both named on the 25-man list, despite both not being due back to training until October and November respectively.
Emery has named four goalkeepers in his squad, with Macedonia under-21 international Deyan Illiev joining Petr Cech, Bernd Leno and Emiliano Martinez.
Carl Jenkinson, another player currently in the treatment room due to an ankle sprain, also makes the squad.
Arsenal have been drawn in a group against Sporting Lisbon, Qarabag and Vorskla Poltava in the Europa League, with the first game against Vorskla at the Emirates taking place on Thursday, September 20.
