Liverpool striker Sadio Mane told SuperSport he was wanted by Liverpool's Liverpool man, Manchester United at the time the manager of the team was Louis van Gaal.

"I could not believe Manchester wanted to take me. By the way, this team is inadequate for me, I'm talking about United. I talked to Van Gaal and he admitted that they made a proposal for me. For me, however, it was not the club where I wanted to go, not then. Now I am in the right place, at the right time and under the guidance of the right coach, "Mane said.

On Saturday, Liverpool will face Leicester in the fourth round of the Premier League. The duel will start at 13:30 in the Macedonian time.

Liverpool star Sadio Mane reveals why every player wants to play for Reds.

That's according to winger Sadio Mane, who has hailed the feel-good factor in the Reds camp.

The Senegalese forward, who scored his 13th goal of the season in their 4-1 defeat of West Ham United at the weekend, is confident that the club are on an upward trajectory under the Reds boss.

The Merseyside outfit are just two points behind second-placed Manchester United in the Premier League table and are virtually assured of their place in the Champions League quarter-finals with a 5-0 first-leg advantage over Porto.

Liverpool have only lost two of their last 25 matches in all competitions with their devastating front three of Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino having plundered 66 goals between them this term.

And Mane - one goal shy of the best return of his career - says players across the globe would jump at the chance to move to Anfield right now.

"The team spirit is good and the confidence is here so I think we are in a good way," praised Mane.

"Every single player is always very happy playing with each other. We always try to help each other and we work as a team.

"I think that is the team's power and the team's purpose.

"Every single player would love to play in this team.

"We are lucky boys and we are going to keep trying to work hard and give our best when we take our places on the pitch to continue to try and win the games."
