Football is one of the 12 games that has been in the African games right from I, as it was held in July 1965 in Congo Brazzaville where only 30 countries and about 2500 athletes competed.

Other sports that has come up in all 12 Editions are athletic, cycling, swimming, boxing, judo, wrestling, weightlifting, basketball, handball, volleyball and tennis.

Medals in the Men's Football tournament is being fought for by 8 participating countries which include host Morocco, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria, South Africa and Senegal.

Split into two groups of 4 team each.

In Group A we have host Morocco, South Africa, Burkina Faso and Nigeria and in Group B we have Senegal, Ghana, Mali and Burundi.


Morocco vs Nigeria: Match Review

The Flying Eagles continued their unbeaten streak in the footballing event after they played out a 2-2 draw against host Morocco in their last Group game of the campaign. Ibrahim Abubakar and Chinonso Emeka got the goals for Nigeria.

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria came into this match with four(4) points after pulling a 1-1 draw on Matchday 1 against the group favourite Burkina Faso before defeating South Africa 2-1 and Matchday 2.

The Host on the other side came in with three(3) points after one win and one lost.

Morocco were proclaimed winner by CAF over South Africa after the South African team failed to arrive on time for Matchday 1, before they were being humbled 2-0 by Burkina Faso before their home fans thereby, making things difficult for the host.


Morocco kick start the game with so much energy and seal knowing that an early lead will bring more energy to the team thereby letting go the pressure.

Their effort was being rewarded at the 13th minute as Abba scored an header after attacking from the flanks. They added a second but it was ruled out for an offside.

The Flying Eagles draw level just before half-time as Ibrahim Babawo step forward to score from the spot at the 45th minute.

9 minutes into the second half the Junior Atlas took the lead again through a spot kick at the 54th minute as Moutaraji send the Keeper the wrong way after the Flying Eagles defender handled the ball inside his box.

Just when it seem like the Flying Eagles will be sent packing by the host as the fans starts jubilating the heartbreaking goal came at the 90+3 minute as substitute Emeka Chinonso stepped in to rescue the country.


South Africa vs Burkina Faso

It was a 4-0 win for Burkina Faso against South Africa in the other fixture with goals coming from Dianda at the 19', Ouattara at the 45' and 52' before South Africa Nkabinde scored an own goal at the 67 minute.


So Burkina Faso finish top of the Group A with seven(7) points and +6 goals difference followed by Nigeria with five(5) points and +1 goals difference.

Morocco is 3rd with 3 points with -1 goals difference while South Africa rocks the bottom-of-the-table with no point.
