Manchester City won the FA Community Shield for the second successive year after defeating Champions League holders on penalties, after the game finished 1-1 in normal time. They defeated Chelsea 12 months ago before the start of the 2018/19 season.
The Manchester side went into this match as favorite after enjoying wonderful result from preseason friendlies.
The Cityzens raced on to an early lead through Raheem Sterling after
Alison's blunder at the 12 minute in which everyone knows that Alisson could have done better. Manchester City dominated the first half as they went away with a first half lead.
Liverpool rallied in the second half to level score through Cameroon center back, Nemanja Matip at the 77 minute with an assist from Virgil van Dijk.
Before the the goal Liverpool came close on three occasions as Virgil van Dijk was kept out by the crossbar and then goal line technology. One minute later Mohamed Salah was denied by the post.
However, Liverpool should have put the match to rest at regular time late in the second half when Mohammed Salah raced through on goal and chipped the ball over Manchester City’s Claudio Bravo. The ball seemed to be heading in but Kyle Walker arrived from nowhere and acrobatically saved Pep Guardiola’s team from defeat.
