The stage have been set, the fight for Supremacy has begun.
The Host Egypt kick start the tournament against Zimbabwe.
Egypt and Zimbabwe were joint in Group A alongside Uganda and DR Congo who will kick-start the tournament on Matchday 2.
One thing that's stood out was the great turnout of over 75,000 fans in the Cairo Stadium compared to what we had at the Copa America and the Gold Cup.

The VAR will not be used in the group phase and the round of 16 of this year African Cup of Nations but it will be introduced later in the quarterfinals of the tournaments.

Down To The Match
For the opening match of the 2019 African Cup of Nations, Egypt 1-0 Zimbabwe. That was eternally a very good start to the tournament. If all the games are going to be so electrifying like this then I can bet you that the Afcon is the tournaments to watch.
The game only goal was scored by Trezeguet at the 41 minute and looking at the opening game he was actually my man-of-the-match and a player to watch out for as the tournament unfold.
For the First 20 Minutes it was Egypt, I thought your mother started thinking very nervously and Mohsenn and Trezeguet really kept the Zimbabwe defenders and the goalkeeper Sibanda busy. Zimbabwe did had a few attack as well but was not Incisive to trouble the Egyptian defence.
For Zimbabwe, Billiat was causing a bit of trouble on the left flank but it was Egypt who were enjoying a bulk of possession and the gap between the Zimbabwe defence was just too easy but the Egyptians were unable to take any of theos early chances.
From the 25th minute 38 minute Zimbabwe enjoyed some possession but they were unable to fix up anything threatening. Mo'salah had a good chance saved by a Sibanda and the two teams took a well-deserved water break because of the heat in Cairo.
After the break Hegazy picked up a nose injury after a clash of heads.
Trezeguet finally broke the deadlock from a fine strike at the 41minute as he bury the ball into the net. Zimbabwe came firing at the last 10 minutes of the game but they couldn't change the scoreline.

It was a very clean game with only one Yellowcard

This was the 15th meeting between Egypt and Zimbabwe with Egypt winning 9, 4 games ended in a draw with Zimbabwe picking up 2 win back in 1992 and 1995.

Concussion:
All in all it was a respectable performance by the Zimbabwe national team. They should walked away of this fixture with their head Held High, but in summary it was Egypt's quality that separated the two teams. Zimbabwe had a good performance but they lack the endpoint.
Egypt next game will be against DR Congo on Wednesday while Zimbabwe will take on Uganda on the same day.
