Street football has come to be one part of football we have come to enjoy over here as it's always been played by known persons, either living in the same street or in the same community and to some extent it has really help in promoting unity among the youths and also increase popularity of the stars in the community.

So today I have to make a return to local sport report but this time it's our local 5 aside street football friendly game.

It's also always a nice experience when I'm around were this young talents are kicking the ball around, if not for anything just to keep fit, catch fun, make new friends and move on.

The last holiday period gave me another chance to watch this football lovers get into the field of play in a 5 aside friendly game.

There were 17 players that were available and the space wasn't large enough to give a smooth play so the idea of 5 aside came into play so that everyone can participate. The players were divided into 3 sets(team) with each team having a total of five players.

A set of bibs were given out to each team.

The Rules

Each team is made up of 5 players, as the was no room for substitution. If a team player has an injury or gets gas out while on the pitch of play his team will automatically play with less men.

Each game between two teams last for 10' minutes only or after 7 out.

If the is no winner both teams progress for penalty shoot out. Therefore any side that loose give way for the next set(team) while the winning team remain.

A 4 inches block was use as the goal target and the ball hitting either of the four sides is taken to be a goal. This really helps at improving the players accuracy as they hit a shot on target.

The Challenges

The sizes of the goal target is not equal therefore possibility of one side missing a golden opportunity or one side getting punish is very high.

Lack of referee to officiate the game always give the game an open ground for disagreement at one point or the other thereby promoting rough tackles.

The hard and dusty ground exposes every player to injury as the 5 aside football gives room for hard and compact marking.
