Stadium Mismanagement: Lafia Township Stadium Report.

Lafia Township Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Lafia, Nasarawa State , central Nigeria.

The stadium has a capacity of at 5,000 and it's been used for association football as it's the home of the Nasarawa United and the Nasarawa Amazons which is the male and female football club of Nasarawa State respectively. Other popular sports that takes place in the Lafia stadium include basketball, athletics, volleyball, handball and karate.

The stadium is erected in the heart of Lafia City, Lafia Township Stadium can be found along Jos-Makurdi Road. The stadium is decorated with the state official colour of blue and white.

As Nasarawa United qualified for the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup

The current government led by Governor Tanko Al -Makura have to secure a good ground for the home side as they move into the international competition as he gave the stadium an uplift in year 2016. The stadium way provided with an artificial turf field, fixed seats both at the VIP and popular stands, the dressing rooms, gates, security barb wires, flood lights, were fixed up in the stadium and the stadium was improve to minimum required standard.

So sad to bring to your notice that currently the stadium has taken five steps backwards in just three years due to mismanagement of the facilities. The gates are in poor state, the seats are broken and some removed, the electronic scoreboard is not active anymore, the basketball court, and the hand ball court are nothing is also in a paralyzed situation.

The Good News

Gov. Al-Makura came to their rescue again as he pledges to renovate Lafia Township Stadium once again.

He promised to upgrade the stadium to an international standard which will direct more sporting activities to the venue, both within and outside the state. He took this upon himself after an inspection on the stadium facilities.

The governor went further to tell the public that boosting sporting activities will encourage the youth participating in sports within and outside the state.

In his words he said “Once the renovation is complete, we anticipate a scenario whereby more people will want to use the stadium for various sporting activities.”

Al-Makura spelled it out clearly that the renovation of the sporting house will include the indoor sporting facilities and special areas for para-sports for the disabled.

As construction has began in the stadium. Hope it will continue as this year elections is heating up.

Take Note

If we don't take care of what belongs to us no one will do it for us. Those stadium facilities were all fixed for all sports lovers so that sports can be taken to the next level in the State but as it stands now there is a huge setback in all other sports except football.
