While Ajax beat FC Midtjylland, Italian Atalanta made sure that Champions League Group D is completely open before the last two rounds. For with a victory at the difficult away ground Anfield in Liverpool, Atalanta and Ajax are still a point with seven, while the English have nine.

The first half at Anfield was a tactical and locked affair without the great goal chances, but a quarter of an hour into the second half, the Argentine great player Alejandro Gomez sent a cross into the field, where Slovenian Josip Ilicic stretched forward and put the ball in the net for a 1- 0-lead for Atalanta.

And just five minutes later, Atalanta were again dangerous on posts into the box. This time, the ball was headed on to Robin Gosens, who completely free blasted Atalanta against the surprising victory.

Liverpool, who were without Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk and Jorden Henderson did not return in the match, and Jurgen Klopp's troops therefore had to leave the field with a defeat.

In the next round, Atalanta will take on FC Midtjylland at home to Gewiss Stadium, while Liverpool will travel to Ajax in Amsterdam.
