There were huge expectations for 20-year-old Ousmane Dembele when FC Barcelona bought him from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017. The talented Frenchman was provided with a five-year contract, which thus expires in the summer of 2022.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Barca management is at a crossroads. Either Dembele is to be sold this summer, or the 24-year-old Frenchman will leave the club free of charge until next summer. At Camp Nou, however, a third option is also being considered - a contract extension with Dembele.

According to the Spanish newspaper, it has been a deliberate strategy at Barca that they have waited until the Frenchman's fourth season in the Catalan big club to decide. Initially, Barca paid 781 million kroner for Dembélé. Since then, the Catalan big club has paid an additional 223 million kroner in bonuses.

Dembele himself is interested in continuing in Barcelona, where the club's coach Ronald Koeman apparently trusts him. Barca, on the other hand, are also interested in keeping Dembele because it gives the Catalan big club the opportunity to profit from the French winger at a later date.
