Dortmund suffered another home defeat when they took on Stuttgart at Westfalenstadion. Before the match, the yellow-shirted team was in fourth place with 19 points and could move up to second place in the Bundesliga with a victory. The visitors from Stuttgart did not succeed when they outclassed the home team with five goals.
26 minutes into the game, Emre Can had a great chance to put his team ahead, but his kick from the left went wide. Silas Wamangituka came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle.
At the end of the first half, however, Giovanni Reyna equalized for the home team. A nice cross pass from Guerreiro sent Reyna deep. He received the ball on the left side of the penalty area and flew the ball towards the far post. Thus, the two teams went to the break at the position 1-1.
At the start of the second half, Stuttgart picked up the pace. In 11 minutes, Dortmund's goalkeeper Roman Bürki had to fish the ball out of the net three times. First it was Wamangituka who scored twice in the 52nd minute, and eight minutes later Forster kicked the ball into goal to make it 3-1. In the 63rd minute, it was Stuttgart's spearhead Coulibaly's turn to get on the scoreboard. Wamangituka found Coulibaly right in front of the box in an otherwise tightly packed Dortmund defense. The French striker moved free with a single move and hammered the ball into goal.
After this, you could see that the players of Nicolas Gonzalez were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. The Argentine did not fail and sent the ball into goal for the final score 5-1.
The result means that Dortmund suffer the third home defeat in a row in the Bundesliga. This has not happened since the 2012/2013 season, when Jürgen Klopp led the team. The three points send Stuttgart up to sixth place with 17 points after 11 games. Dortmund is one position better in fifth place.
