FC Barcelona abandons much-discussed competition duel in the US. The Catalan giant still waives the plan to play the league game against Girona in January in the United States. These became clear on Monday during a board meeting of the Spanish top club.
The Spanish football federation RFEF already expressed its opposition to the plans, just like the interest groups of footballers. In addition, Real Madrid signed a protest because of a distortion of competition and the world football association FIFA was very critical of it. ''FC Barcelona was and is willing to play a match in Miami", Barcelona's club management reports Monday after the meeting.
"And we agreed that the winnings of that match would be divided between all Spanish clubs that reach the highest and second highest level, and as long as all parties involved are not aligned, this project can not flourish."
THIS PLAN WOULD YIELD MILLIONS FOR LA LIGA
Playing a number of Primera División matches in North America would give LaLiga 200 million euros. The goal of the organization is to finish one game on American soil per season.
At the end of November LaLiga dragged the RFEF into court to continue with the plans. The organization finds it particularly strange that the battle for the Spanish supercup, which is organized by the RFEF, this year was finished outside of Spain.
