It was a bad day for the usually speedy Jan Bednarek. However, the red card has now been overturned by the FA.
Initially, the Polish midfielder received the red card for putting Anthony Martial in the box. However, the English Football Association has today assessed that the incident was not harsh enough to be assessed for a red card. Thus, the 24-year-old Southampton player avoids having to serve his ban in the upcoming matches.
That same evening, Arsenal player David Luiz also received a red card in the away game against Wolves. After the match, the verdict was much debated, and several including Arsenal's manager, Mikel Arteta, thought that the Brazilian should not have been punished at all. At the time of writing, however, that deportation is still in force.
