Nainggolan switched to Royal Antwerp this summer, after an entire career in Italian. Now, in a lengthy interview, he reflects on his career.
Nainggolan got his first senior minutes in Italian Piacanza FC back in 2007, and until this summer, it has actually only been in Italy that Radja Nainggolan has unfolded his great talent. In 2010, he switched from Piacanza to Cagliari, and has since played in both Roma and Inter, where he was especially during his time in Roma among the best central midfielders in the world. It was also during this time that interest in Nainggolan was greatest. he says about his career to OCW Sport's Twitch channel that his career would have ended differently if he had thought about the money:
- I completely do not care about money. If I had thought about money, I would have ended up with a completely different career. After Cagliari I could have been taken to Juventus, who also wanted me when I was in Roma, but not only them, I could also have been taken to Chelsea, but I preferred to be myself in a city where I felt good, where I was accepted both as a player and as a human being.
The 33-year-old midfielder now plays for Royal Antwerp after 15 years in Italy where he managed to play 367 Serie A matches, scoring 48 goals and 35 assists, as well as a memorable Champions League season that ended in a semi-final defeat to Liverpool. He signed a two-year deal in Antwerp, where he has played 20 league games this season.
